2004: A Success Story
  • Open Qualifying
From March through June, 56 indoor and outdoor karting facilities across the country hosted Open Qualifying. Over 1500 drivers between the ages of 13 and 17 participated at their local facilities. 220 drivers were successful at this stage and moved forward to the Run Offs.
  • Run Offs
At the Run Offs, the karters competed in Rotax RM-1 Superkarts at one of two events run by Red Bull, which took place at F1 Outdoors, East Bridgewater, MA and Infineon Raceway, Sonoma, CA.
  • Semi Final
A total of 15 karters progressed through the Run Offs and joined ten scouted drivers - selected by 'undercover' scouts from Junior U.S. racing formulae - at the Semi Final, in Sebring, FL in September. A panel of European racing experts evaluated the drivers in Skip Barber Formula Dodge racecars and three were selected to travel to the Final at the Autodromo Fernanda Pires Da Silva Circuit in Estoril, Portugal.
  • Final
John Edwards of Little Rock, AR claimed victory in Portugal after two days of testing and evaluation in F3 racecars provided by Alan Docking Racing. At just 13 years of age, John impressed the judges with his composure, dedication and potential. John will join Scott and Colin on the Red Bull Junior Team for 2005.
